Stephen Forsey – Special Guest
On Wednesday, October 16th, Picciones’ hosted Greubel Forsey for an wonderful evening of art and time innovation. The evening was highlighted by special guest Stephen Forsey, co-founder of Greubel Forsey. Our customers were thrilled to have the opportunity to engage the living legend, who is making rounds to United States Greubel Forsey retailers.
The exhibition included some of the finest watches in the world today including the Quadruple Tourbillon Secret, the Tourbillon 24 Secondes, the Tourbillon 24 Secondes Contemporain, the GMT, and two versions of the Double Tourbillon 30° Technique — one in rose gold, one in grade 5 black titanium. A Greubel Forsey tourbillon is among the finest and rarest timepieces in the world. Truly, a collector’s brand. Greubel Forsey makes less than 100 watches a year and to produce even that amount is extremely demanding.
The Greubel Forsey Line-up:
The Contemporain stole the show with it’s stunning blue anodized titanium bridges and base plates. This oxidation process to achieve this color is laborious and needs to be done with extreme precision as the blue hues can quickly change to purple or red. To have a consistent, vibrant color, the oxidation process must be done perfectly. The result is the most incredibly rich blue color.
The Contemporain also exhibits a unique tourbillon bridge made from synthetic sapphire, to give the appearance of a floating, independent angled tourbillon. The tourbillon in the limited edition Contemporain is the Tourbillon 24 Secondes, a dramatic and rapid tourbillon which rotates 2.5 times per minute.
The back of the Greubel Forsey Double Tourbillon 30° Technique demonstrates the sublimely finished bridges, gear train, tourbillon escapement, screws, etc. Beyond the watchmaking, the artistic design of the movement has many depths.
The Greubel Forsey Double Tourbillon 30° Technique won the prestigious Concours International de Chronométrie, claiming first prize in 2011 for extraordinary chronometric performance and reliability. It was also awarded the “Grand Complication Watch” prize at the Grand Prix d’Horologerie de Genève.
One of the newest members to the Greubel Forsey lineup is the GMT (pictured here in white gold), a spectacular timepiece that features a scintillating rotating globe made of oxidized titanium along with the 24 second tourbillon complication. The back features a second time zone indicator (which has a daylight savings adjustment). This piece has been nominated for Best Grand Complication by the Grand Prix d’Horologerie de Genève for 2013.
The Quadruple Tourbillon Secret is the most conservative piece of the collection. With only indication of the tourbillon from the dial a set of hands registering the orbital path, the world sees only a beautifully crafted black dial in the signature asymetrique rose gold case.
The Secret part of the Quadruple Tourbillon Secret! The exhibition back shows off the quad tourbillons, rotating together in harmony. The back also allows the owner to gaze at the incredible nickel plated bridges and that hand frosted finishing. The high polish tourbillon bridges are also visible from the back.
New for 2013, the Greubel Forsey Double Tourbillon 30° Technique in ADLC black titanium is remarkable! Everything we love about the traditional 18kt rose gold Greubel Forsey Double Tourbillon 30° Technique, only lighter and stealthier! This particular piece takes on a completely unique feel and aura than the rest of the pieces in the line.
